New vessel CASTALIA 100% Electric zero emissions.
Consulmar Group and SYM Naval will build the first multipurpose e-ship in Europe to offer port services
The CASTALIA 100% electric vessel marks a global milestone as it is the first multipurpose zero-emission vessel designed to support various port activities. This innovative zero-emission vessel is 12.50 meters in length and 5 meters wide and supports various port activities that Consulmar performs in the Port of Castellón, such as the mooring and unmooring of ships, the collection of MARPOL solid and liquid waste, the transportation of personnel and provisions, as well as fighting maritime pollution.
CASTALIA has two 240 kW motors, 500 kWh of lithium batteries, an operational autonomy of 10 hours, space for 12 passengers, a liquid waste collection capacity of 30m³, and a towing capacity of 3 tons. Additionally, it integrates a digitization system that allows for remote monitoring, constantly updating the base with its autonomy and other relevant data.
CASTALIA is part of a broader environmental sustainability project that the company Consulmar is implementing at the Port of Castellón, generating photovoltaic renewable electricity in its facilities to power the vessels and electric vehicles in its fleet. It's the company's second 100% electric zero-emission vessel. The ship marks a before and after in the decarbonization of auxiliary activities supporting ships in port, demonstrating that for these activities, where the work autonomy by distance or time is not necessarily long and where there are frequent periods of inactivity allowing battery charging, 100% electric propulsion is feasible.
